Its the age-old developer story. Guy makes game, guy sells rights to game, guy gets game back again and remakes it for the iPhone. Okay, weve never heard that story either but it is the story behind retro game Qwak thats heading to an iPhone near you.

This cute, old school adventure game was originally made for the BBC (thats a computer not a UK TV network) 22 years ago and was then re-launched on the Amiga by Team 17, the guys who made Worms, in 1993. Qwak has lain dormant for several years until its original creator, Jamie Woodhouse, decide to bring it back to life via the iPhone. Learning the iPhone SDK as he went, Jamie has now completed the iPhone version, which he hopes will be available on the App Store very soon.

Check out the video below and youll see how this labor of love could quickly become the next addictive iPhone smash.

T-Mobile’s HTC Desire Twitter marketing: Naughty and misleading

Information | Saturday May 29 2010 2:02 am | Comments (4) Tags: , , , , ,

This caught my eye just moments ago from the T-Mobile UK Official Twitter account:

Superb phone for #business: #HTC Desire, unlimited texts, unlimited Calls, unlimited internet for 20 per month: http://bit.ly/d9k021

“Wow!” I thought, “20 quid a month? For a desire? How are they doing that I wondered?”

I clicked through.

Here’s what I saw:

It’s not 20 quid a month. It’s 35/month but there’s a discount for the first 3 months.

This offer itself is perfectly fine.

It is, however, patently RIDICULOUS to advertise the phone at 20/month.

The website even says: 20 a month (24 months) in bright T-Mobile branded purple.

That tells me the offer is 20 per month for 24 months, right?

No.

Because there’s more clarifying text underneath saying “(for the first 3 months, 35 thereafter)”.

Absolutely ridiculous. Completely and utterly ridiculous.

Do they think our heads button up the back?

This demonstrates yet another further erosion of the English language when it comes to mobile operators.

“Unlimited?”

Oh it’s unlimited. Until you hit the limit.

Or it’s ‘fair use’. Until we decide that fair use means a 500mb limit. (I’m looking at you, Vodafone). So you can have unlimited data. On a 500mb limit.

How long before T-Mobile starts running TV adverts for the HTC Desire at ‘20 pounds per month’ with a disclaimer saying that 20 pounds actually equals 35 pounds.

They didn’t even say in big letters on the HTC Desire special offer that it’s “20/month 3-month special offer” or anything like that. No. Ridiculous.

Knight Rider Is Back And On The App Store

Okay, so David Hasselhoffs airtime these days is a mixture of him singing rock songs in German and eating burgers off the floor in a drunken stupor, but we all remember his heyday, dont we? No, not Baywatch, the cult classic that was Knight Rider. In a nutshell, the show followed the crime fighting escapades of Michael Knight and his kick-ass futuristic car with a voice that sounded like that old guy from Boy Meets World. Sadly, the last we heard from KITT (the car) and Michael Knight was way back in 1986 when the series ended until now.

For those who loved the quality soundtrack, cheesy dialogue and completely impractical stunts, Knight Rider has returned as an iPhone game, available now on the App Store. In a nice touch, the developer hasnt tried to bring the game into the same technical field as the iPhone (which is probably more advanced than any gadget found in the show) opting instead for the retro pixel art feel of 80s coin-op titles. Most of the game is spent driving the car in a top down view and there are plenty of powerups available that hark back to the TV series, clips of which can also be unlocked as you play.

If you enjoyed Knight Rider growing up or simply love the glory days of kids TV youll likely get the same goose bumps we did as the intro sequence and title music plays when you launch this app.

$4.99

Just paid a tenner for The Times iPad app…

Information | Friday May 28 2010 5:03 am | Comments (0) Tags: , , , , ,

Why did I pay a tenner for The Times iPad app? Well I thought I should try it out and see what it was like. I’ve had a preview of it and it utterly rocked when I saw it. Alas right now all I see when I run the app is a black screen thus. Perhaps it’s because the first edition has not yet hit the digital presses? I think so. It’s only 1am at the moment. I have high hopes for News International although i do think they are faced with a rather difficult task.

That said, paying a tenner for the app is a little annoying. Unless That has bought me access to the site and service for a year. That would be ok. But paying just to have it on my iPad and then not being being able to login on the web… That would be annoying.

We shall see.

Published on my iPad.
