Hulu Streaming TV Finally Arrives On iOS Devices, Introduces Hulu Plus Subscription Service

The Hulu Blog today confirmed what many have been murmuring about online for some time. Hulu is bringing its streaming TV service to the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. The aforementioned murmurs also questioned how this delivery of most of Americas top TV shows would be paid for, they too were given an answer with the introduction of the Hulu Plus subscription.

Formerly only available via a PC or Mac, the Hulu Plus app and subscription service will combine to deliver episodes from current and classic TV shows on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 as well as the iPad and third gen iPod touch.

At present the service is working on an invite-only basis (apply for one here) and will cost users $9.99 per month but, for this fee you do get a good deal of benefits. Full seasons of TV shows will be available including big hitters such as Family Guy, 30 Rock and The Office with up to 720p HD resolution available. Through the Hulu Plus app, users will be able to browse, search and resume playback at the same point on different devices. For iPhone and iPad users, you will even be able to stream over 3G!

While weve not had the chance to fully test Hulu Plus yet, this sounds like the service Apples portable devices have been crying out for and one that will likely bring about a few discussions inside Apple HQ. With the recent acquisition of media streaming startup Lala, it is rumored the company is gearing up to introduce a cloud-based iTunes service that could include streaming TV shows to iPhones and iPads.

The Hulu Plus app is available for free on the App Store and includes a bunch of freebies that dont need a subscription in order to try out. The movie Super Size Me is included as well as clips and episodes from a number of TV shows as well, so its worth sampling the app for these bonuses alone.

Check it out on the App Store here

Mobile navigation service, Waze, hits the BlackBerry platform

I had a note in from the team at free navigation service, Waze, to let me know that they’ve launched an early beta version of Waze for BlackBerry. If you haven’t come across Waze before, it’s a simply fantastic community mapping service that quite a lot of people are going nuts over. The service enables you to swiftly identify the best and most usable map routes — like a ‘path well trodden’ for the connected age. This means that, generally speaking, you’ll get phenomenally accurate traffic indicators and really useful navigation knowledge parsed from the wisdom of the crowds.

Users have been flocking to the service which offers free navigation and quite a lot more. Indeed the Waze team have been working on making the service informative and fun to use. Which is why they’re offering an iPad for each of the top two users who much (i.e. drive over) the most BlackBerry road goodies during their daily commutes. (As you drive, you earn ‘goodies’ — a bit like pac man — and you can garner substantial points if you drive a different route thus populating the Waze map with more useful information for everyone else). There’s more information on the Waze blog.

Waze is available for the BlackBerry 8900, 9000, 9630 and 9700 devices (not the Storms, yet). Plus chances are it’ll work on whatever device you’re currently sporting too (e.g. Android, Nokia, iPhone).

Give it a shot, especially if you drive regularly!

If you’re looking to deploy BlackBerry in your organisation, whether it’s for 2 people or 2,000, chances are you’d be far better speaking to a specialist like Scancom than popping down to your local Vodafone store.

I bumped into Chen Kotecha of Scancom UK yesterday and asked if he could give me an overview of the company’s services, particularly from the perspective of buying, deploying and supporting BlackBerry services for enterprise.

Here’s the video:

If you’re on the hunt for assistance deploying BlackBerry, do give Chen and his team a call.
